Cybele is the Chief Executive Officer of Caxton Legal Centre. She is also a founding board member of Elder Abuse Action Australia.
Cybele is a lawyer with over 20 years experience in family law, domestic violence, mediation, guardianship and administration and elder law. She has experience in designing, implementing and managing multi-disciplinary services, funded by Commonwealth and State Government departments, that provide legal and social supports to persons affected by family violence and elder abuse. These include:
- The Seniors Legal and Support Service, a multi-disciplinary specialist elder abuse service providing legal assistance and social work supports to older persons at risk of or experiencing elder abuse, mistreatment or exploitation.
- The Older Persons Advocacy and Legal Service, a new health justice partnership involving integrated social work and legal assistance for older persons identified by health professionals as being at risk of or experiencing elder abuse.
- The Financial Protections Service, a service which uses community-based outreach, screening and older-person-centered conversations and referrals to promote autonomy and agency in decision-making and prevent financial abuse.
- The Family Advocacy and Support Service, a court based service providing legal assistance and social work supports to persons who have family law issues and who are affected by family violence.
Cybele is passionate about promoting and advancing human rights in Australia through the practice of law. Cybele is actively engaged in policy and law reform and is regularly invited to consult on government initiatives and community working groups that address family law, domestic violence and elder abuse issues.
